A Spanish tourist and a Chinese young man were awarded the title of “courageous individual” and got 2,000 yuan reward respectively by Suzhou Foundation for Justice and Courage on Tuesday for saving a boy who fell into a pond on April 5.

On the afternoon of April 5, Tang Shanlu, a young Chinese worker, found a boy floating on his stomach in the middle of the pond after hearing a woman’s crying for help. Tang, good at swimming, jumped into the water and picked up the two-year-old boy to the bank.

Meanwhile, Pep, a 41-year-old Spaniard, was passing there by bike.

"My son fell into the water, I beg you to save him", cried two women, who also dragged Pep from his bicycle anxiously. Pep rushed to the riverside following the two women and made the boy lying beside the pond.

But the poor boy had stopped breathing after saved out of the pond and his belly distended for choking of the water.

Pep immediately torn the boy's coat and performed repeated cardiopulmonary resuscitation to the boy. While the boy had no response after spiting up a small bit of water.

Despite this, Pep did not gave up and stick to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Three minutes later, the boy spit up another bit of water and finally became conscious.

The news that Pep saves a boy’s life through early appropriate ways drew wide concern among web users. It is also the first time that Suzhou Foundation for Justice and Courage awarded a foreigner in recognition of his courage since its establishment in 1994.

Pep is has a Chinese name Tian Bo. He was a Spanish teacher at a foreign language school in Jiaxing, Zhejiang province and recently resigned. It is on his way to ride to Mohe, Heilongjiang province, that Pep saved the boy.

Pep said he just did what he should do and to him, saving people is as usual as to say "hello and goodbye" every day.
