Suspect detained in Jiangsu food poisoning case

NANJING, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Police have detained a suspect in their investigation of a food poisoning case in which 22 students became ill after eating at their school in east China's Jiangsu Province last month, announced local officials on Friday.

The students at the Shunhe middle school in Huai'an district in the city of Huai'an developed food poisoning symptoms after eating lunch at school canteen on April 23.

They have all now recovered after receiving hospital treatment, said officials with the district government.

Investigation has found that the food was intentionally poisoned and a suspect has been taken into police custody pending further investigation, according to the officials.
