ZHENGZHOU, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Police in central China's Henan Province have detained three people held accountable for a fatal truck-bus collision that claimed 13 lives on April 23, local traffic authority said Sunday.

Li Kaimin, who is in charge of the Luohe city Jincheng transportation company, Zhou Mingsheng, a safety staff, and Gu Yinhang, owner of the truck, were detained over suspected crime of major liability accident, according to the traffic police squadron of the provincial public security bureau.

According to an initial investigation, Cao Fusheng, driver of the truck, overtook another vehicle in violation of traffic rules and drove into the opposite lane, leading to the headon collision at around 2:20 p.m. on April 23 in Wuyang county, according to the traffic authority.

The collision killed 13 people, including three children and the drivers of both vehicles.

Twelve people who were injured in the accident were still hospitalized as of Sunday.

The Luohe city Jincheng transportation company, to which the ill-fated truck belongs, is also found to have loose safety management over staff and vehicles, according to police.

The Ministry of Public Security has dispatched a team to investigate the cause of the accident and a separate investigation is still under way.

Traffic accidents on China's roads result in about 70,000 deaths and 300,000 injuries each year, according to the Ministry of Public Security. Speeding, fatigue, drunk driving and poor road conditions are usually blamed.
