121 law-enforcement officials investigated for malpractice: SPP

BEIJING, April 1 (Xinhua) -- China's Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) said on Sunday that 121 government officials were investigated in 2011 for alleged deliberate failure in transferring potential criminal offences to the police or prosecutors.

Chinese law requires administrative authorities to transfer potential criminal cases found in performing their supervisory duty in certain fields.

A special inter-agency campaign launched in late 2010 to root out malpractice in such transfers, especially in cases concerning illegal activities in food safety, environmental protection, work safety, financial sectors and intellectual property infringements.

Those officials were investigated under the charges of 99 bribery offences and 154 malpractice offences, according to a statement from the SPP.
