HANGZHOU, March 31 (Xinhua) -- The Hengdian World Studio in east China's Zhejiang province recently carried out a campaign to confirm the identities of its film extras in order to ferret out fugitives who may be hiding within their ranks, local authorities said Saturday.

In March, the studio required more than 6,000 actors to apply for actor's certificates at a local police station, with police officers visiting film sets to verify the identities of the actors, according to the Hengdian police department.

The Hengdian World Studio, referred to by some as "China's Hollywood," is known for its high concentration of actors from all over the country. Several fugitives-turned-actors have been nabbed at the studio in recent years.

The most recent cases involved a fugitive suspected in an attack on a police officer 13 years ago in northeast China's Heilongjiang province, as well as another fugitive accused of embezzlement in central China's Hubei province. Both suspects were arrested last December.
