Wuhan, the capital of central China's Hubei province, plans to set up a special team consisted of local policemen to ensure food safety and build itself into the "food safety city" in the country in the next four years.

The city will strengthen supervision of food production, processing, circulation as well as consumption, and take food safety as part of the performance appraisal for local government officials so as to ensure food safety and reliability. The municipal government expects the special team to efficiently investigate food safety cases.

Furthermore, the municipal government will introduce legislation to regulate small workshops and vendors, revise local food safety standards, and establish an integrated food safety information system as well as a food safety risk monitoring and early warning center. It will also restrict or ban bank loans to food companies that violate related safety law and regulations.
