13:18, March 08, 2012

BEIJING, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Police have arrested a man suspected of gunning down three people in east China's Jiangsu Province, according to the Ministry of Public Security on Thursday.

The man, surnamed Wei, was suspected of intentionally shooting three people dead for money in two separate cases, in the province's cities of Zhenjiang and Nanjing on Feb. 29 and March 1 respectively, the ministry said in a statement.

The suspect was arrested at his home on Monday afternoon after a six-day police investigation. He has confessed to committing the criminal acts, the statement said.

The police also seized a large sum of money from Wei's home, the statement said.

The ministry will continue its efforts to crackdown on the illegal possession of firearms and gun-related crimes. Gun-related crimes and relevant crimes dropped 46.8 percent in 2011 from the previous year due to police efforts, the statement said.
