In Syria the regime has proven to be immune from altering its crack down in response to dialogue. Their actions of aggression include violence that affects young, old, and weak. Aggressive acts that they take are not restricted to dealing with threats against them. Innocents are lost. Families are devastated. While I do not know a military strategy that would be of use, it is clear that neither is political dialogue of use. In my opinion, the regime is exposed to actions that would restrain its craven behavior, yet this conviction against them does not automatically imply that there exists a constructive containment strategy that the community of nations can impose. China must work with United Nations partners to be imaginative about this crisis. Syrian authorities are committing crimes on a significant and durable scale.
