A total of 38,000 couples divorced in Shanghai in 2011, making the divorce rate in the city increase 4 percent year-on-year to surpass 35 percent.

Shanghai now has the second highest divorce rate in China, according to the statistics of 2011 marriage registration released by Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Civil Affairs recently.

To cope with the rising divorce rate, Shanghai has been making constant efforts in promoting divorce consultation, psychological counseling and other work concerning divorce counseling in recent years.

On Feb. 13, 2012, psychotherapists from Shanghai's first divorce service company began to provide online consultation service.
