YONGJING, Gansu, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- The location has been confirmed for two vehicles forced into a river by a landslide in northwest China's Gansu province Tuesday afternoon, but it is not yet known how many people were involved in the accident, rescuers said.

As of 2 p.m. Wednesday, the location of one car and one mini-bus had been confirmed with the efforts of over 40 professional rescuers and seven yachts, said Kong Deming, deputy director of the Marine Bureau of the Hui autonomous prefecture of Linxia in Gansu.

The rescuers have started to salvage the submerged vehicles. However, the number of people that fell into the water remains unknown and no bodies have been found, Kong said. At least two vehicles were swept into the Yellow River at about 4:40 p.m. in Yanguoxia township, Yongjing county, after a landslide occurred on the soft yellow soil layer, which thawed during recent warmer temperatures, according to the preliminary investigation.

The landslide displaced about 100,000 cubic meters of earth.
