BEIJING, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Scenic spots across China saw a surging number of tourists during the first four days of the week-long Spring Festival holiday, data from the National Holiday Tourism Office showed on Wednesday.
In the first four days of the holiday that started on Jan. 22, about 1.42 million tourists visited 25 major scenic resorts in eastern Shandong Province, up 17 percent year-on-year, the office said.
Northeastern Liaoning Province received a record 5.35 million tourists during the period, an increase of 10.58 percent from a year earlier, it said.
Southwestern Guizhou Province accommodated a total of 1.65 million visitors during the first four days, up 25.57 percent from the same period of last year, it said.
Meanwhile, about 734,500 passengers made plane trips on Tuesday, and 3.7 million travellers hit the rails on the day, the office added.
The Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year, falls on Jan. 23 this year.
