Internet boosting China's development

The number of Chinese Internet users has exceeded 500 million, which has caught international media attention. Western media that are used to labeling China's changes as sources of instability appeared relatively calm this time, forming a sharp contrast with their crazy efforts to embroil China in the Arab Spring over a year ago.

China's economy grew 9.2 percent last year, while most major economies witnessed weak growth. This shows that China still maintains strong momentum of growth in the Internet era.

Only by observing the fast changing China from a perspective of stability rather than instability will foreign media understand why the booming Internet use in China has not triggered a revolution.

The explosive growth of the Internet in China is based on the country's steady economic growth as well as its stable and inclusive social environment. The Internet has various functions such as disseminating information quickly, and is unlikely to come into irreconcilable conflict with Chinese society. If anything, the Internet is helping promote China's development in the right direction.

The Internet actually has nothing to do with social revolution. It is not that when the communication means is ready, a social revolution will break out. Otherwise, the Internet would have led to many social revolutions in the West. The key point is that whether social members are satisfied with realities and whether a society has a normal democratic environment. It is a principle suitable for both China and the West despite the fact that they have different social systems and ideologies.
