South Nongovernmental Think-tank (SNT), the first nongovernmental think-tank in southeast China's Guangdong province, was recently inaugurated with the approval of the Ministry of Civil Affairs.

At present, the think-tank has 57 regular members from all walks of life, who will provide advice to Party committees and government agencies in Guangdong via the Internet, leaders' meetings, and other platforms.

As a growing number of Chinese citizens want to offer advice and suggestions to government agencies, Southern Metropolis Daily launched SNT in cooperation with and other institutions.

The think-tank's regular members include famous netizens, scholars and experts, researchers at government agencies or public institutions, and self-employed workers.

In addition, it has more than 1,000 active non-regular members.

"Their tasks include rationally observing and analyzing public affairs, giving professional and authoritative interpretations of major economic and social phenomena, making scientific predictions about future trends, and providing practical and feasible policy advice. This way, the think-tank will help emancipate the people's mind, promote scientific development, and build a harmonious society in Guangdong," said Zhang Dongming, editor-in-chief at Nanfang Media Group, parent of Southern Metropolis Daily.
