A drinking fountain at Zhejiang University has become famous recently after its microblog received more than 47,800 fans.

Chen Longbiao, a 25-year-old PhD candidate at the university, together with his classmates, invented a program which can send a message to the microblog whenever the water in the fountain is full, empty, or boiled and ready for drinking.

On September 22, he registered a microblog under the name "Water Fountain at CCNT [Advanced Computing and System Laboratory] of Zhejiang University," though since then it has adopted the relatively simple moniker of "Lady Water Fountain".

One day after being christened, the number of fans reached 10,000. Two days later, the number of fans surpassed 20,000.

"This really surprised me," said Chen.

The fountain has also since been selected as a Web star by CCTV, Chen told the Global Times.
