Shooting, robbery suspect on the loose in E China

NANJING, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- Police in east China's Jiangsu province are searching for a suspect who shot a man during a robbery on Friday.

The victim has been rushed to hospital and it is not known yet whether his injury is life threatening, said a police officer with the Public Security Bureau of Nanjing, the provincial capital.

After making a cash withdrawal, he was robbed and shot by a gun at 9:50 a.m. at a bank on the city's Heyan Road. The suspect escaped by jumping into a vehicle.

A police investigation is underway.

It is illegal for civilians to bear arms in China.
