KUNMING, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- Rescuers have retrieved four bodies from the Nujiang River in southwest China's Yunnan province after a bus plunged into the river Monday afternoon, local authorities said Tuesday.

A light bus with eight people on board went off the road and plunged into the Nujiang River at 5:37 p.m. Monday, after scratching a minivan in rural Lushui county of Nujiang Lisu autonomous prefecture, according to a statement released Tuesday by the prefecture government's information office.

Three people were injured in the accident and are currently in hospital for treatment, said the statement.

Rescuers are still striving to find the missing person.

Police are trying to identify the bodies, and further investigation is underway.

On Tuesday, 13 people died and 41 others were injured in the central province of Hunan after a truck smashed through a guardrail and crashed into a coach driving on the opposite side of the highway.
