Beijing tourism realizes great lead forward

With the arrival of the 200 millionth tourist in Beijing, tourism in the city has realized a great lead forward. The city is now on its way toward a prime tourism destination in the world.

It took Beijing nine years to make the jump from receiving 100 million tourists to receiving 200 million tourists annually, and Beijing's total annual income from the tourism has also increased by two times and exceeded 300 billion yuan.

Tourism is turning into an important pillar industry for Beijing's economic development and Beijing is turning into a first-class destination of international tourism.

According to data, the inbound tourists and domestic tourists received by Beijing in the period of the 11th Five-Year Plan were both 1.4 times as many as those of the 10th Five-Year Plan. Beijing's total income from the tourism of the period of the 11th Five-Year Plan was 1.8 times as much as that of the 10th Five-Year Plan.

In 2011, Beijing received more than 200 million tourists in total, up 15 percent year on year. The total number of inbound tourists staying overnight was more than 5 million, up 6 percent compared to that of 2010, and the total income from the tourism was more than 300 billion yuan, up about 16 percent compared to that of 2010. Beijing's tourism has entered the “fast development lane.”

“In number of tourists, Beijing is not inferior to international-level tourism cities such as New York, Paris and Tokyo.”

Tourism experts said that the number of 200 million tourists is certainly not just a growth of amount, and more importantly, it reflects that Beijing's tourism has possessed international attractiveness.
