Shanghai's local government revealed the progress of the city's major construction projects Friday, with more than 100 billion yuan ($15.87 billion) invested in urban construction this year.

A total of 87 major projects - including Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, Shanghai Wusong International Cruise Port, the city's commercial aircraft project and the Disney World theme park - have either been finished or are moving ahead smoothly, Jiang Shujie, deputy director of the Shanghai Urban Construction and Communications Commission, said at a press conference Friday.

Progress on three major parts of the commercial aircraft project, including a research and design center, a general manufacturing center and a customer service center, have met the goals for the year, Jiang noted.

The Disney project, which broke ground in April, has also made a start on infrastructure work. The main phase of construction work on the theme park is expected to start in April, 2012.

Jiang also pointed out that a large amount of energy-saving and environmental protection infrastructure work has been carried out in 2011. The projects include new water resources and tanks and a new phase of the garbage and sewage treatment plants in Pudong New Area.

"Shanghai will continually promote its shifting mode in terms of economic growth. We have launched a group of major projects this year - such as the cloud computing center, an Internet audiovisual center and an international shipping service center - in order to move forward on a sustainable development path in 2012," Jiang said at the press conference.
