China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued a notice on Wednesday asking websites to conduct self-checks to find out and repair the security loopholes timely.

After a huge cache of netizens' personal data from China's most popular websites was leaked last week, the ministry has put together a team to assess the situation and put forward solutions.

The ministry requires all websites to attach great importance to safeguard the security of Internet users' information.

The websites involved in the information leakage should remind their users as soon as possible to change their codes to avoid the possibility of being hacked.
