Beijing will build more than 100 public bicycle service stations in Dongcheng District, which will offer 5,000 public bicycles for rent, according to the People’s Congress of Dongcheng District.

An official of Dongcheng District said that the public bicycle service spots will be set about 200 to 500 meters away from each other, covering bus and rail transport stations, commercial office areas and residential communities.

At present, the public bicycle rental stations are under confirmation, and the foundation construction of part of the rental stations has begun. The relevant rental procedures of public bicycles will also be prepared.

As for the rental cost, an official said that bicycles would be offered free for the first hour, and 1 yuan per hour will be charged after that with the maximum charge of 10 yuan for 24 hours.

Dongcheng District is just a pilot area. Furthermore, user’s detailed personal information will be stored in the chip of the Beijing Transportation Card. One can rent and return a bicycle just by swiping his card without paying a deposit.
