The Public Security Bureau in Wenxian county in Gansu province recently detained a netizen for eight days for disrupting the public order.

The netizen surnamed Zheng published fabricated information on his microblog, claiming a serious fire that broke out in Wenxian County on the evening of Dec. 7 killed 100 people, the Public Security Bureau announced.

The blog with photos had caused wide concern from many netizens and seriously disrupted social order.

At around 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 7, there was indeed a fire in Yinpingzhai Village in Wenxian County. However, after the joint effort of local villagers, the firefighting department and the public security department, the fire was quickly extinguished with no casualties.

Zheng is a 19-year-old villager from Yinpingzhai Village. He searched on the Internet and found information about a fire in Hong Kong, which he used on his microblog and claimed it was the fire in Wenxian to increase hits.
