Police in Taiwan have found food that expired four years ago in a warehouse of BONCROP, the third ranking baking material importer on the island.

The company resold its expired imported materials and foods to five-star hotels or upmarket food factories after putting new labels on them. Police found chocolate that expired on Feb. 10, 2007 with labels showing an expiry date of April 18, 2013.

On Dec. 13 and Dec. 14, health authorities in Taipei, New Taipei and Kaohsiung checked the company's headquarters and warehouses. In one warehouse in New Taipei, they found expired food material placed in area for food disposal.

Officers also detained the import and sales goods tables at the headquarters in Taipei to check whether the raw material labels were altered.

Expired materials and foods were also found in warehouse in Kaohsiung. In addition to the expired chocolate with new labels, 35 cans of expired jam were also found.

At present, eight items of suspected foods, including coffee beans and cake powder, have been found in Taiwan.
