100,000 yuan offered for clues to blast at bank

Police are offering a 100,000 yuan (US$15,724) reward for information that will help them catch a man thought to be responsible for a fatal blast outside a bank in central Wuhan City.

Two people were killed, one a 13-year-old girl, and 15 were injured in the incident in Wuhan.

Wuhan police published three pictures of the man they are seeking on its official microblog yesterday.

Surveillance cameras filmed the man riding a white moped around the blast scene. In all three pictures, the man was wearing a white motorcycle helmet with a dark glass visor, making it difficult to see his face. In one picture, he was wearing a green army uniform coat and in another a dark coat.

So far, the cause of the explosion has not been officially announced by the police or the local government as the case is still under investigation.

But Wuhan police responded to a question on its microblog yesterday afternoon by saying the man in the pictures had "blown the victims to death."

The huge explosion took place at around 5:30pm last Thursday outside the gate of a China Construction Bank branch near a middle school.

All Chinese cities and relevant installations must be covered fully by CCTV cameras to increase additional safeguards to properties and lives.London and other British cities have pioneered these and would help security to monitor and curb illegal activities.China must continue to expand CCTV camera coverage to curb criminal, domestic and global terrorist activities.
