BEIJING, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- China's meteorological authority said Friday that heavy fog will continue to cover the country's southern regions during the morning, and it suggested residents with respiratory ailments to reduce outdoor activities.

The National Meteorological Center issued on its website a second blue alert early Friday morning, the lowest level in the country's four-scale fog alert system.

Fog and haze will decrease visibility to within 1,000 meters in western parts of north China and most areas south of the Yangtze River, including the provinces of Shanxi, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Fujian, Hunan, Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan, and as low as 200 meters in some areas, the center said, urging people in these regions to drive slowly for safety reasons.

Meanwhile, snow is forecast for the northwestern parts of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region over the next three days, while heavy snow is likely to blanket the northern areas of Jilin and Liaoning provinces in northeast China, the center said. Enditem
