Brewing Shaoxing rice wine

Workers convey parboiled rice for brewing Shaoxing rice wine at the Shenyonghe Shaoxing rice wine brewery in Shaoxing, east China's Zhejiang Province, Nov. 8, 2011. As winter approaches and the temperature falls, it comes to the best season of a year for brewing rice wine in Shaoxing. Rice wine, with a history of thousands of years, is regarded as one of the three most time-honored wines in the world. The techniques of brewing Shaoxing rice wine was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2006. In 2010, China yielded 530,000 metric tons of Shaoxing rice wine with sales revenues reaching 4.3 billion yuan (about 677 million U.S. dollars). (Xinhua/Xu Yu)
