Algae bud in PKU water

(Global Times)

10:17, November 03, 2011

Peking University students found algae in their "Yanyuanquan" bottled water, which is produced by their university. The university's water producer said the algae was not infectious, the Legal Mirror reported Wednesday.

A student surnamed Li said his dormitory bought Yanyuanquan bottled water and found the green algae after they drank one third of it. "It makes me vomit every time I think of it," Li told the paper.

The university water producer said the algae was produced by water dispensers that did not have an air filtration system to purify the air, and the algae got into the water through the dispensers. They can help students to clean the water dispensers and change the water.
