Beijing, Nov. 1 (PD Online) -- Taiwan's Ministry of Education is seeking to ban the teacher-student romance in schools.

The ministry declared in a written statement recently that schools at every level should write explicitly in their contracts with teachers that "teacher-student romance" is prohibited.

Wu Qingji, principal of Taiwan's Ministry of Education, pointed out yesterday that, from the ministry's point of view, "teacher-student romance" of any kind is discouraged.

He admitted that it is hard indeed to forbid the teacher-student love affairs in universities because the couples are both adults, but he still insisted that it would be better for the couple to develop the relationship after the student's graduation.

The ministry's officials said that they chose to do so because it would effectively prevent campus sexual harassment from happening.

While the majority of schools in Taiwan have expressed their approval, it was the students who questioned the ministry's decision.
