A pregnant woman, who was expecting her child any day, used carbon monoxide poisoning to take her life and that of her 9-month-old baby in her belly over the weekend, after her husband left her for another woman, according to the family of the deceased, Shanghai media reported Sunday.
Liu Fei, 32, who worked as an editor at Shanghai Press of Scientific and Technological Education publishing house, committed suicide 10 days before she was supposed to give birth, said the reports. Local police, however, failed to confirm the case as a suicide Sunday when reached by the Global Times, and it was unclear as to whether an investigation into her death would be opened.
The family told local media, however, that chat records posted on popular social networking website kaixin001.com, commonly referred to as the Chinese version of Facebook, proved that the husband was having an affair with another woman.
Liu had begged her husband to return, according to several records on her mobile phone, said the family, who said that the husband still could not be reached as of early last night.
