The 2011 Phoenix Mountain Health Culture Festival was held in Phoenix Mountain Park in Beijing's northwestern Haidian district on Oct. 15, 2011. Aimed at promoting health resources, this festival received a warm welcome from people young and old.

Phoenix Mountain, a 4A Famous Scenic Site in Haidian, is attached to Xishan or the West Mountain, a branch of the Taihang Range. Not only is it magnificent to behold, but also it is home to a culture of meditation and a great variety of agricultural products.

Located at the foot of the mountain, Longquan Temple is the most popular scenic spot. Legend has it that the ancients meditated there for immortality, leaving many mysterious holes in the mountain. Visitors can also go into the pick-your-own farms and handpick various farm specialties, such as walnuts, free-range eggs and pumpkins.

"This is amusing and we definitely have had a great day here," said Liu Yuan, a student from the Communication University of China.

This festival is a part of the 2011 Xishan Culture and Leisure Tourism Festival, and activities, such as mountain climbing, fresh fruit picking, a temple fair and a tea party will be gradually introduced.

"The event will surely enhance the influence of Xishan and generate both social and economic benefits," said Chen Mingjie, the director of Haidian District Tourism Bureau.
