BEIJING, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- China's civil affairs ministry on Monday distributed relief goods to southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, which has been hit by typhoon-triggered floods.

The ministry sent 2,000 tents, 1,500 folding beds, 7,000 cotton-padded quilts and 7,000 cotton coats to the region that was pounded by rains triggered by Typhoon Nesat.

The death toll rose to four on Sunday in Guangxi as the typhoon continued to wreak havoc

By 4 p.m. Sunday, 2.48 million people were affected by the typhoon in the region's eight cities and 37 counties, and over 140,000 were evacuated, according to the region's civil affairs department.

More than 2,700 houses were toppled, with another 7,800 damaged. About 311,000 hectares of crops were flooded. Direct economic losses exceeded 1.6 billion yuan (251 million U.S. dollars), the department said.

More rains will pound the region as another typhoon, Nalgae, is expected to bring further extreme weather to Guangxi on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the local weather forecast.

The ministry began its emergency response on Saturday, dispatching relief teams to the areas affected.
