NE China coal mine flooding leaves 1 dead, 5 trapped

HARBIN, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- A coal mine flooded in northeast Heilongjiang Province Tuesday, leaving one miner dead and five others trapped underground, according to local authorities.

The flood occurred around 4:30 a.m. in the city of Shuangyashan as 28 miners were working underground; 22 managed to escape, according to the local watchdog for work safety.

Rescue operation is continuing.
