Forecast warns of rainstorms in east China

BEIJING, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Meteorological authorities warned Saturday that rainstorms will hit some regions in east China over the next three days as rainy weather continues in areas between the Yangtze and Huai rivers in the central and eastern parts of the country.

The eastern regions can see aggravate rainfalls as much as 160 millimeters over the next three days, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) forecast, while northern Xinjiang in the northwest will also see rainy weather during the same period.

In contrast, a prolonged drought is forecasted to continue in the provinces of Yunnan, Guizhou, and Guangxi in southwest China, according to the forecast.

The forecast said that intensive heat is to prevail in much of southern China over the next three days. Temperatures can reach above 37 degrees Celsius in some regions in Sichuan Province and the Chongqing Municipality.
