Edited and Translated by Han Shasha, People's Daily Online

China is considering revisions to the existing ambient air quality standards to cope with the changing condition of the ambient air pollution, according to the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

Zhou Shengxian, head of China's Ministry of Environmental Protection stresses that the new standards should take full account of the new characteristics of ambient air quality in China.

The new standards should be revised based on the new benchmark of the ambient air quality to make the standards more scientific with precise and valid data.

Since the implementation of the first ambient air quality standards in 1982, the standards have played an important role in environmental protection and environment management. With the rapid social and economic development, the characteristics of ambient air pollution have changed tremendously. It is necessary to revise the standards on the basis of summing up the experiences.
