(Xinhua)

15:57, August 22, 2011

On Aug. 21, a customer selects sugar in a supermarket in Tancheng county, Shandong province. China’s sugar prices have continued to rise since mid-August amid a sustained drought that severely hit China's major sugar production regions in Guangxi and Yunnan.

The sugar prices of mid- and long-term spot market have been over 7,900 yuan per ton, while the forward market prices have exceeded 8,000 yuan per ton, which is close to China's highest sugar trading price. (Xinhua/ Zhang Chunlei)
