A Shanghai man who avenged on his wife's lover and killed him with an ax and hid the body in an apartment block electrical substation, is to face the law.

Zhang Jie, 39, from Shanghai's downtown Hongkou District, appeared at the Shanghai Intermediate People's Court on Tuesday. Zhang was charged with murder.

Prosecutors said Zhang, who has been married for 11 years and has a son, was enraged and lost control after discovering that his wife was having an extramarital affair with her colleague, surnamed Tao, who lived in the same neighborhood.

On January 27, Zhang waited near the apartment of Tao. When Tao appeared, Zhang rushed at him and struck him repeatedly on the head with an ax, said prosecutors.

Zhang said in court that he was so nervous and angry at the time that he had no idea how many times he hit the 58-year-old Tao. "I just wanted to teach him a lesson, I didn't mean to kill him," Zhang confessed on the court.

After Tao fell to the ground, Zhang dragged him into a nearby substation room and fled, the court heard. While he pled guilty, Zhang insisted he did not know Tao was dead until he was arrested.

The Shanghai Intermediate People's Court is expected to give a verdict soon.

That estranged & sexually playful wife should be held as a culprit to the murder too for she started it all.
