On Aug. 14, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau launched the country's first weather health index: the nasal cavity cleaning index. Based on the daily measurements of air quality, the index is used to inform residents of when they should clean their noses to prevent risk of respiratory diseases.
The nasal cavity cleaning index comprises four levels: The lowest level alerts residents to clean their noses when they feel uncomfortable, while the highest level suggests they take up the activity frequently.
