Zhang Yang meets with U.S. senior retired generals

BEIJING, December 10 (ChinaMil)--Zhang Yang, member of the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and director of the General Political Department (GPD) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), met with the U.S. delegation participating in the 5th China-U.S. senior retired generals exchange activities held in Beijing on December 9, 2013.

Zhang Yang expressed that the China-U.S. relations are in the important stage of linking the past and future while carrying on the past to open up the future. The meetings between the heads of the two countries respectively held in June and September of 2013 reached the consensus to jointly establish a new relationship between two major powers based on mutual respect, cooperation and win-win situation, having thus drawn a blue print for the development of the China-U.S. relations.

Meanwhile, both sides have been actively committed to developing an appropriate relationship between the two militaries in correspondence with the new relationship between the two major powers. The pragmatic cooperation level between both militaries has recently progressed to a new height.

Both the Chinese side and the U.S. side should seize the opportunity, move along with the momentum, and push forth the relations between the two countries and the two militaries towards deeper exploration and newer height, said General Zhang Yang.

Owens, former vice chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the other members of the U.S. delegation also expressed their willingness to make efforts to promote the mutual trust and friendship between the two countries and the two militaries of China and the U.S.
