ZHURIHE, August 20 (ChinMil) -- The two-day-long summary, observation and mission deployment of the competition of the special operation troops of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) codenamed "Sharpen Edge 2013" was concluded on August 19, 2013 at the Zhurihe Combined Tactics Training Base of the Beijing Military Area Command (MAC) of the PLA.

The land subjects and maritime subjects of the competition of the PLA special operation troops were staged from June to July in the Sanya Training Base, located in south China's Hainan province, and the Zhurihe Combined Tactics Training Base. The competition focused on eight major topics including comprehensive combat skills, maritime blocking and mountain blocking, covering main missions and action modes of special operations.

According to the head of related department under the General Staff Headquarters (GSH) of the PLA, the competition has effectively improved actual-combat capabilities of special operation troops under information-based conditions, providing effective methods for actual-combat training and providing basis for compiling a new training program.

At the Zhurihe Combined Tactics Training Base, special troops of the three services reported such actual-combat subjects as fixed-point parachuting with equipment, special shooting and urban indoor anti-terrorism skills, and completed the drill on such subjects as reconnaissance and guide operations, seizing and control operations and night urban anti-terrorism operations.
