At the invitation of the Italian Real Admiral Antonio Natale, commander of the NATO Task Force (NTF) 508, Real Admiral Li Xiaoyan, commander of the 13th naval escort taskforce of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), boarded the "San Marco" amphibious dock transport ship of the Italian Navy and exchanged views with Real Admiral Antonio Natale on the morning of January 27, 2013.
During the meeting, the NTF 508 gave a briefing on its anti-pirate mission, and the two sides exchanged their views on the pirate situation in the Gulf of Aden and the waters off the Somali coast and closer anti-piracy cooperation.
Li Xiaoyan expressed that the Chinese naval escort taskforces have been attaching importance to information communication and intelligence sharing with escort ships of various countries since carrying out escort mission in the Gulf of Aden and the waters off the Somali coast, and the meeting would further promote bilateral cooperation in escort operations in the future.
Natale said that the NATO and the Chinese naval escort taskforces enjoyed good exchanges and interactions, and the NTF 508 and the Italian naval escort ships are willing to strengthen exchanges and carry out effective cooperation with the Chinese naval escort taskforces.
