South China Sea Fleet starts using repair shelter for battle-damaged aircraft

(PLA Daily)

08:30, October 22, 2012

A repair detachment equipped with repair shelter for battle-damaged aircraft rapidly gathered and headed to the site of two drill-damaged fighters of the South China Sea Fleet under the Navy of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) in early autumn.

"In the past, a battle-damaged fighter had to be pulled to the repair factory," said Qi Xiquan, an engineer. "But now, field repair is available thanks to the repair shelter, which is not only time-saving but also can avoid the second damage to the fighter when it is pulled to the factory."

With the arrival of the repair detachment composed of more than ten special support vehicles at the site, the repair shelter and various devices were placed according to the terrain to launch immediate repair for the battle-damaged fighters.

Inside the repair shelter, tools like lathe, mill, plane, rivet and weld were all ready and several operators were making the patch for damaged fighters. In less than two minutes the patch is finished, and four minutes later the damaged parts of the fighters were mended.

According to Qi Xiquan, the repair shelter which is equipped with self-powering system serves as a well-functioned "mobile repair factory" ready to provide complex and professional repair for battle-damaged aircraft at any time and at any place.
