(China Military Online)

11:06, October 12, 2012

The picture shows the Jinan MAC holds a farewell ceremony at 16:00 at the airport for the 7th Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment's departure to Sudan (Darfur).

As approved and designated by the General Headquarters/Departments and the Jinan Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), I headed to the Nyala City in South Darfur State, the Republic of Sudan in Africa as a member of the joint guiding group of the General Headquarters/Departments and the Jinan MAC to organize the sixth rotation and hand-over of the peacekeeping force and visit Khartoum, capital of Sudan, from July 18 to 28 of 2012. I've recorded what I saw, heard, thought and realized in a bid to help people better understand Sudan, get deeper knowledge of the peacekeeping officers and men, and provide more support for the peacekeeping operations.

Farewell and fly to Africa!

I made a rendezvous with the other 8 comrades at the Jinan Yaoqiang International Airport, namely Song Hongxiao, chief of staff of a group army under the Jinan MAC, Qu Chengrang, director of the Peacekeeping Affairs Office of the Jinan MAC and deputy director of the Military Training and Arms Department of the Jinan MAC, Mr. Qu, staff officer of the Peacekeeping Affairs Office of the Ministry of National Defense, Mr. Zhang, staff officer of the Military Training and Arms Department of the Jinan MAC, Mr. Dong, director of a division under a group army, Mr. Wei, staff officer of the Inner Mongolia Military Command (MC), Li Yun, reporter from the PLA branch of the Xinhua News Agency, and Zhang Xin, reporter of the PLA Daily.

The members of the guiding group as well as the 150 people of the first echelon of the peacekeeping officers and men boarded the Boeing 757 airplane of the China Southern Airlines at 21:20 and left the Jinan Yaoqiang International Airport for the remote and mysterious continent of Africa.
