Chinese DM kicks off three-day India trip (2)

Liang's delegation includes Yang Jinshan, commander of the Tibet military region, which borders India.

However, some Indian analysts believe Liang's visit to India is only a "tepid" gesture, as Beijing is "portraying cordial political relations" with its neighbors but it "suggests no flexibility or dilution in Beijing's position on territorial claims or other outstanding issues," India's Daily News and Analysts website commented.

According to the People's Liberation Army Daily, the PLA conducted a high altitude exercise in the Tibetan plateau in July in which a new type of air defense missile successfully hit three invading "enemy aircrafts from the southeast direction."

The Hindu newspaper said Wednesday that the Indian armed forces are evaluating the recent PLA ground-air combat drill and are studying the proposal to raise an exclusive strike corps for the China border.

China and India signed an agreement in New Delhi in January on establishing a working mechanism for consultation and coordination over their border issues.
