PLA's heavy equipment field transportation capability achieves new leap

By Zhu Lei and Yu Zhengxing (PLA Daily)

08:19, August 17, 2012

A general emergency support platform system for heavy equipment which has been developed by the research group of the Academy of Military Transportation of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) through three years' efforts was produced and its design and type were successfully approved by the PLA general headquarters/departments. All the experts agreed that the successful development of the system will help the field-combat military transportation support capability of heavy equipment of the PLA achieve a new leap.

Field-combat transportation generally sets strict requirements for the structural strength, longitudinal passing capability and rapidity of the loading and unloading platforms. However, ordinary fixed platforms have such technical problems as steep longitudinal gradient and low local bearing strength, which will adversely affect the comprehensive support capability of military transportation and troops' quick-reaction capability at critical junctures.

The general emergency support platform system for heavy equipment can significantly improve erection rapidity, overall stability, passing reliability and site adaptability as a "transformer" for improving the comprehensive support capability of military transportation under field combat conditions. The system has shown bright military and national defense application prospects.
