First PLA Vector Prevention and Treatment Experiment Base established

The first "Vector Prevention and Treatment Experiment Base", jointly planned and built by the Academy of Military Medical Science (AMMS) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the Joint Logistics Department of the Shenyang Military Area Command (MAC) of the PLA, was established in late July. According to the briefing by Gao Fusuo, political commissar of the AMMS, the base will carry out the comprehensive study on the prevention and treatment against those mosquitoes and insects doing harm to the health of the PLA officers and men.

The AMMS has established an problem-solving team headed by Zhao Tongyan, researcher with the Research Institute of Microbiology and Epidemiology of the AMMS, to work in collaboration with the Joint Logistics Department under the Shenyang MAC in an effort to carry out researches of specialized long-lasting mosquito/insect repellent for camouflage uniforms, specialized mosquito/insect repellent for exposed skin, long-lasting anti-mosquito nets, the anti-mosquito technology and equipment for indoor, outdoor and barrack surroundings and others, all of which will eventually form a comprehensive protection plan against blood-sucking insects. The results of various researches will be extended to all the frontier defense troop units of the PLA, which are suffering from serious mosquito threat.
