Ma Xiaotian holds talks with ADF vice chief

Ma Xiaotian, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), held talks with Air Marshal Mark Donald Binskin, the visiting vice chief of the Australian Defense Force (ADF), on the afternoon of July 29, 2012 in Beijing. The two sides had frank and in-depth exchanges of views on issues of common concern.

Ma Xiaotian said that the year 2012 marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Australia and the bilateral relations are at a critical juncture of linking the past and the future. The relations between the two countries have maintained good momentum of all-round and stable development in the past 40 years. The relations between the two militaries have further maintained healthy and stable development momentum against the background of the development of the relations between the two countries. The PLA is willing to make joint efforts with the Australian side to actively implement the consensus reached by the defense and military leaders of the two countries on strengthening exchanges and cooperation between the two militaries, constantly promote the mutual strategic trust and enhance the pragmatic cooperation.

Binskin spoke highly of the development momentum of the relations between the two militaries in recent years. He said that the Australian side attaches great importance to the development of the relations between the two militaries and expects to strengthen the pragmatic cooperation in various fields with the Chinese military and jointly contribute to maintaining regional peace and stability.
