Ma Xiaotian meets with Indonesian naval delegation

Ma Xiaotian, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), met with Didid, operation assistant to chief of staff of the Indonesian Navy who came to China to attend the expert group consultation of the China-Indonesia navy dialogue mechanism, and his party on July 26, 2012 in Beijing.

Ma Xiaotian said that in recent years, China and Indonesia have witnessed increasingly deepened mutual political trust, constantly improved dialogue and cooperation mechanism, continuously deepened cooperation in various fields, further developed relations between their militaries and fruitful exchanges and cooperation in such fields as high-level reciprocal visits, defense consultations, personnel training and joint training. It is hoped that the two sides can make joint efforts to establish a navy dialogue mechanism between the two countries, so as to strengthen the maritime cooperation mechanism between the two countries and the exchange mechanism between the two militaries, deepen pragmatic cooperation in various fields between the two militaries including the two navies, and make new contributions to the development of the relations between the two countries and the two militaries and the maintenance of the regional peace and stability.

Didid said that the Indonesian Navy is willing to strengthen the cooperation with the Chinese side, deepen the friendly exchanges and pragmatic cooperation between the two navies and work together with the Chinese side to maintain the regional peace and stability and maritime security.

During the consultation, the two sides held consultations on the overall framework and technical issues of the mechanism and reached a basic consensus on its purpose, operation mode and dialogue contents, etc. The two sides agreed to hold the first dialogue within the year.
