James Alix Michel, president of the Republic of Seychelles, met with the Chinese military delegation headed by Ma Xiaotian, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), on July 13, 2012 in Victoria, capital of Seychelles.

Michel said that Seychelles and China enjoy very friendly relations. The two sides have long been carrying out friendly cooperation in various fields including politics, trade and economy and culture. The bilateral relations are exemplary among international relations in that the two countries have been treating each other equally. The Seychellois side is grateful to China for its long-term strong support in various aspects. He reiterated that the Seychellois government will, as always, pursue the one-China policy, and is willing to make joint efforts with the Chinese side to further deepen the bilateral friendly cooperation in various fields.

Ma Xiaotian said that the bilateral relations have been well developed since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1976 as evidenced by increasing contacts among high-ranking officials of the two countries and smooth exchanges and cooperation in such fields as trade and economy, culture and health. The Chinese side appreciates that the Seychellois side attaches importance to its relations with China, unswervingly adheres to the one-China policy and devotes itself to the development of the bilateral relations.

Before the meeting, Joel Morgan, Seychellois minister of interior, and Leopold Payet, commander of the Seychellois People's Defense Forces, met and held talks respectively with the Chinese military delegation headed by Ma Xiaotian. They had full exchanges of views on the relations between the two militaries and other issues of common concern.
