Themed by "2012 Win-Win for All: Peace, Security and Cooperation", the World Peace Forum was held on July 7 and 8, 2012 in Beijing. Over 100 participating honored guests including foreign former high-ranking officials, leaders of Chinese and foreign think tanks and ambassadors to China held discussions and exchanged their views on such subjects as current international security situation, direction of international security cooperation, relations among major powers and international security.
The World Peace Forum is China's first high-level unofficial international security forum. It is hosted by Tsinghua University and co-hosted by the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs. Alan García, former Peruvian president, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, former Malaysian prime minister, Shaukat Aziz, former Pakistani prime minister, Dominique de Villepin, former French prime minister, Yukio Hatoyama, former Japanese prime minister, Sergei Ivanov, former secretary of the Russian Security Council, and Javier Solana, former secretary-general of the Council of the European Union (EU) and high representative of the EU for foreign affairs and security policy, delivered their speeches respectively. Yang Jiechi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China (PRC), Ren Haiquan, vice president of the Academy of Military Sciences (AMS) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), and Li Rongcan, Assistant to Minister of Commerce of the PRC, also made their speeches on China's foreign policy, national defense policy and foreign economic and trade policy.
