The National Economy Mobilization Office and the Quartermaster, Materials and POL Department under the General Logistics Department (GLD) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) jointly issued a notice recently to designate over 3,300 enterprises (units) as national emergency supply support mobilization enterprises.

According to the experts, the emergency supply support mobilization enterprises are mainly responsible for supporting emergency supply support mobilization, i.e. providing catering support in wartime and in military operations other than war (MOOTW), and are given priority to purchasing and bidding of the military materials in peacetime.

In August 2010, the Chinese government designated more than 3,800 food industry enterprises as the first batch of emergency supply support mobilization enterprises, which produced five categories of products including instant food of standard military food, such as canned food and instant noodles, raw materials of staple food, such as rice, flour and coarse grains, raw materials of non-staple food, such as meat, fish, poultry and eggs, and beverages.

The emergency supply support mobilization enterprises designated this time are the second batch of such enterprises. They were selected from over 6,000 large-scale food industry enterprises across the country, and verified and decided by related military and civilian departments.

Zhou Linhe, director of the Quartermaster, Materials and POL Department under the GLD of the Chinese PLA, told the reporters that the state and the general headquarters/departments of the PLA have developed an emergency supply support mobilization information system which integrates such functions as searching, inquiry, transmission, map orientation and decision-making consultation. After the designation of the two batches of emergency supply support mobilization enterprises, the mobilization resource information system of national food production, processing and logistics enterprises has taken the initial shape.
