'Zheng He' ship arrives at east coast of North America

By Li Qinwei and Cao Jinping (PLA Daily)

08:20, June 26, 2012

After a continuous voyage of 8 days and nights, the "Zheng He" oceangoing training ship of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) successfully evaded the direct impact from "Chris", the third tropical storm of this year on the North Atlantic Ocean, and arrived at the East coast of North America on the morning of June 22, 2012, local time.

Due to the north wind of moderate gale to fresh gale predicted to occur in the waters along the "Zheng He" ship's original voyage route from June 16 to 17 with waves rolling about 4 meters high, the command post had decided to adjust the sailing route for June 17 by changing the original plan of passing through the northern waters of the Azores Islands to that of passing through the southern waters of the Azores Islands.

As of 16:00 on June 20, the "Zheng He" ship had maintained a minimal distance of about 270 nautical miles from the third tropical storm "Chris" on the North Atlantic Ocean, with the wind over the waters along its sailing route being less than strong breeze.
